Cemetery - Doughty/Kilpatrick PS: I put both cemeteries up on the Find-a-Grave website: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScn=old+kilpatrick&CScntry=4&CSst=0 I located the Old Kilpatrick Cemetery and spent some time there. In fact, there are two distinct cemeteries; one being a slave cemetery with about 75-100 burials and the other a while cemetery with around 10-15 burials. Here are the gps coordinates: (White) Latitude: 34.61413, Longitude: -82.95770 (Slave) Latitude: 34.61536, Longitude: -82.95733 The land is currently owned by the Graber brothers who were very kind and showed me the cemetery location. I could only find one grave in the slave cemetery that was clearly legible. One it was the name "Wilston/Milston". In the white cemetery, I found Col. Alexander Kilpatrick's stone was several engravings, with the largest looking almost like a "W." However, I think that it is a K with a line running like this / on the bottom right edge....i.e. K/ I didn't notice it at the time, but a cousin pointed out in the photos that there appears to be another stone with a J engraved in the upper left hand corner (in the white cemetery; see photos labeled 0266, 0267, and especially 0268). I took quite a few photos of both cemeteries: http://www.thestapps.net/files/old_kilpatrick_cemetery/ I am planning to take another trip up there next weekend to clean the stones (with water and a toothbrush). They are mostly carved out of sandstone, and I have no intentions of putting chemicals on them. Will the Genealogical Society take note of this cemetery and/or plan any actions to take care of it? David Alan Stapp stappda@yahoo.com o----------o Thanks for your response. The location for the Kilpatrick Cemetery that you mentioned is correct. The GPS reading was actual, but it's for the slave cemetery that is about 50 yards from the white Kilpatrick Cemetery. The white cemetery is on the edge of an open field, and slopes downhill towards a creek. I wasn't able to clear away the weeds that were covering the stones (most of which have no writing on them). If you ever wanted to check out the cemetery, you can contact the 2 brothers who own a storage business near the land. They were extremely pleasant and happy to let me back there for a look around.
